The Saudi government revealed today its role in a bold but unsuccessful attempt to assassinate Osama bin Laden as he was inside the World Trade Center, finally shedding light on why the majority of skyjackers involved in the September 11 attack were citizens of one of our closest allies in the Middle East.

“This explains a lot” commented a high State Department official speaking off the record. “Bin Laden endangers the world and is also a mortal threat to the Saudi government. But we hope that in the future our Saudi friends will notify us when they conduct covert operations on American soil.”
