Sports Huet does his job, but Hawks suffer shutout loss The Blackhawks haven't had a game like this all season. The fourth-highest scoring team in the NHL couldn't find the net Friday, and the result was a 1-0 loss to the Anaheim Ducks. It was the Hawks' first shutout loss of the season and first regulation defeat on a six-game road trip that ends today against the Los Angeles Kings.
Special focus on special teams No team has provided a better example the last few seasons of how quality special teams can impact a game than the Bears. They routinely made plays to put games away, and that's why the inability to get scores in the return game has caused a ruckus. If you need reinforcement of the fact that special-teams play is indeed one-third of the game, just check out the Minnesota Vikings, who have been losing games the way the Bears used to win them.
Irish in an upsetting situation Golden Tate has emerged as Notre Dame's most dynamic and consistent playmaker. The sophomore receiver is one of the few Irish players who will be the physical equal of his USC counterpart tonight. Tate also has developed an uncanny grasp of the obvious. ''Outside our locker room, I don't think many people think we can win,'' he said.

Lifestyles The ice is right for wintertime fun at local parks If you can't wait to don those ice skates you stored away last spring, now's your chance, as the Chicago Park District has opened its eight outdoor rinks at parks throughout the city. The admission-free rinks, which opened Friday, make perfect destinations for families looking for inexpensive seasonal fun. Many of the rinks have warming areas and plenty of holiday music wafting through the air. Some feature concessions with hot chocolate and cider. For those who don't own skates, rental fees are affordable, ranging from $5 to $6, depending on the park.

Business Big crowds, big deals; must be Black Friday More than 10 hours before Sears at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg was to open Friday -- when many were still devouring their Thanksgiving turkey -- a man set up camp outside the store's front door, hoping he'd be first in line to buy a steeply discounted television set after the store opened at 5 a.m.
